Who is Rilakkuma?

Rilakkuma is a mysterious bear who appeared one day in the apartment of an office worker named Kaoru. His name comes from the Japanese words "relax" (リラックス, rirakkusu) and "bear" (熊, kuma).

True to his name, Rilakkuma spends his days lounging around, eating snacks (especially pancakes, omelettes, and dango), and enjoying a slow, peaceful life. He has a zipper on his back, hinting that he might be someone in a bear costume — but no one knows what's inside!
